My dining room table is resembling Santa’s workshop at the moment, with sticky tape and ends of Christmas wrap scattered everywhere.
I have just finished cleaning out a box I keep in the top of my wardrobe which I fill throughout the year with little bits and pieces that I find for gifts. The box was a little overflowing as over the past couple of years I have done a bit more buying then giving so it was actually filled with stuff so old I couldn’t give it to anyone.
Rolf Harris’ Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport…
Things have changed in the last few years, haven’t they, for old iconic Rolf Harris?!
What to do with this now?
I remember I bought it at a book sale in the middle of a shopping centre in Mackay (Queensland, for those playing at home). It was far before the trials of the now convicted pedophile. A tag that makes ones products a wee bit tarnished.
So Rolf sits in this box waiting on a decision from me. A little different from last time, no judge and jury.
What to do with Rolf now?
Just throw it out? Some people in this world can’t afford books. It could help someone to read! Badly, as it is filled with slang, but read all the same.
I can’t just throw it out as waste.
Do I put it in a Life Line bin for their big book fair? Surely they can’t morally sell it either?!
I can’t give it to my kids. I could never read it to them. My mouth would be saying “Tie me Kangaroo down sport, tie me Kangaroo down” but my head would be all, “Is that really all he was tying down? Dirty pedophile! Should of kept it in his pants. I wonder if he pulls out the ol’ wobble board in prison?”.
Gifting? Only as a bad joke. Never to a kid. One suggestion I had was to keep Rolf in the box until Ari turned 21 and give it to him with the story of how I bought this piece of Australiana when he was just 1 year-old and just before the shit hit the fan old icon Rolf.
So Rolf sits in his box.
Just Rolf in a box.
What do you think I should do with Rolf? Have you bought something and then discovered it was hugely inappropriate?
