Social media is just the norm in today’s society. Some people’s social life online is far greater than in real life. The health issues with that is for a whole other episode!
People who give up social media are looked at in awe. Onlookers are often amazed at the control used to just get offline. Really, is it that big of a deal?
After watching a segment on TV, I was left with a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. What if what I was sharing on my social pages and the blog was being used in some way to harm my kids? Not that there was reason to think that it could be, it was just a seed that was planted and it was growing into a weed!
I swing between, this is just life now and I’m thinking too hard about it, to shut the whole thing down right now, let it go! Ultimately what wins for me if that I can let people know (that actually care) what is going on in life on mass. Social media makes connection easy, but sometimes a little too easy.
This episode, psychologist, Dr Sasha Lynn and I chat about the pros and cons to our online lives, things to always be mindful of, how to secure yourself and our thoughts on shutting the whole thing down.

I left Facebook & my blog 12 months ago. It was supposed to be just for December but after a week I knew I would never go back. A week ago I logged out of Instagram, telling people I’d be back in the new year but right now I feel like life is better without social media. I’m trying to figure out why I’m there? What’s the point & what do I get from it? I’m also trying to tell my teenagers that life actually happens when you’re OFF your phone not while you’re on it. It’s a constant conversation with them about what is & isn’t appropriate to put online. HARD!!!
I often think about you pulling back and I think it is such a healthy (? is that the right word) thing. I also have really enjoyed your extra time on Instagram. It is so hard. Like I lunch this episode today and then tonight I posted three photos of the kids on my personal Facebook…
Loved this post gals!!! I’m off to turn off my geotagging right now!!! xx
Thanks Shan. Geotagging is quite scary and kinda highlights the info that we are putting out there. x
