After writing about the trials of the FIFO lifestyle, you can read it here, I decided that during the Mr’s home time I would pack up the family for a little getaway.
I had grabbed some Dreamworld annual passes on the 4 for 3 deal last month and also picked up a great package for my hotel of choice, QT Gold Coast, so our destination was made.
I have always wanted to stay at the QT Gold Coast and though it wasn’t the smartest choice with the 4 of us in one hotel room it was fine for the 2 nights (only just fine, we were shattered by the time we got home). I loved how kitsch the whole place was but where the QT really shines is in the culinary department. If you stay you must eat at Bazaar. Breakfast was good, but dinner simply superb! I even enjoyed room service. How could you not with pork belly pizza! All the yums!
Our Dreamworld annual passes include entry in the SkyPoint observation deck of the Q1 building so we headed there first up to burn some afternoon energy.
Leni enjoyed being bundled up in her new Outlook pram liner and quilt* and also her first tram ride. How I wish I could get pushed around just tucked up in a cocoon checking out the sights. You may have seen a few other outings of late in her pimped up pram if you follow along on Instagram.
We headed to Dreamworld with one super excited 3-year-old. What we ended up with by the time we got inside was one overwhelmed 3-year-old that wouldn’t go near any of the ABC For Kids and Wiggles World rides. But with a little coaxing and one super melt down at the timezone games we worked him back around and we revisited the new attraction.
How was ABC For Kids World? I am thinking it might be a work in progress. It isn’t much on the old Wiggles World except for a new maze, rebranded pirate ship and Giggle and Hoot ride. Plus dining outlet and few bright and colourful climb things. There are characters though which is a pretty big scoop for the littlies. Not my littlie though, he didn’t want a bar of anyone except for Alex the Lion.
I did notice a few official looking people getting around the park and my guess is there is more to come in this area. Hopefully a clean up of the old and tired Big Red Car ride.
I still rate Dreamworld as the best theme park for our family. There is a lot to do for us including all the Dreamworks rides, Tiger Island and aussie wildlife area. Ari’s new favourite is the dodgem cars with Daddy. We will certainly get great value from of our annual passes.
What holiday on the Gold Coast is complete without a trip to the beach? We were very lucky and on our last day the weather was warm and we got to enjoy some sandy time before we headed home.
I am so glad we went on our Gold Coast mini break. It is nice to getaway even if just for a couple of nights. The kids loved it and even though the hotel situation did nothing for us romantically, the Mr and I loved doing something different with the kids.
Oh and of course happy wife, happy life! Yep, I will own it.
Where was your last mini getaway?
*I was gifted the Outlook All Seasons Pram Quilt and Cotton Pram Liner. Aren’t they super sweet! There is a range of colours and patterns plus they are guaranteed to fit all pram types. What I love about the quilt is that it has a insert for those really cold days (like today in Brisbane) but you can take it out for our normal Queensland winter. Plus they are both machine washable. Leni is super snug and I must say I am a little jealous of her cosy cocoon!
