I am on the part of my fitness cycle where I pick things back up again. My chosen route, this time, is dusting off the old DVDs.
Just call me vintage!
The first day was a slow process but I got the job done. Jillian Michaels did sit frozen on the TV for over an hour and a half while I hunted down my hand weights and then lost them again, this time including the TV remote. Once found I begun my 20-minute kickboxing routine with both kids running around me wondering what I was doing! Luckily no one copped a lame side kick to the face.
I was strong for two days… and then I was sore… and then I didn’t do it again.
Actually, that is being harsh on myself. Maybe I should say I have given myself a three-day recovery. Tomorrow I will be back!
When I shared my struggles of trying to get started on facebook I was offered some free YouTube workout ideas that didn’t have me stuck if I couldn’t find the remote. Plus I could workout anywhere and not be stuck in front of the TV where the kids normally play.
Though, seriously, they will find me wherever I go!
I have a few workout channels that I already subscribe to, so I thought I would throw them all together for easy reference of the best youtube workouts.
There really is now no more excuses for me to be hoarding those DVDs!
Krissy from Pretty Wee Things rates Lucy Wyndham-Read’s YouTube clips, which go from 4 to 20 minutes.
I gave Lucy a go with a 10-minute session and it was pretty good. Not too strong but strong enough when motivation is lacking. I did get confused with the voice over and spent way too much concentration on if she was saying what I was hearing or not. I am easily distracted obviously!
Famous yogi Tara Stiles’ channel is part glam and part grassroots. There are so many yoga sessions on here that I wonder what she has left to give. You could get started with this gentle yoga routine.
Tara not only shares her yoga but also a heap of recipes that will have you sorted for dinner too.
BeFiT really leaves me with zero excuses on why I still have my old exercise DVDs. So many videos so little time. If you are note sure where to start, go to the Popular Uploads section on the home page, there you will find a range of workouts including my favourite trainer, Jillian.
I’m also a big fan of the Burn to the Beat sessions but I do tend to burn out a little faster than I should.
I have used the Yoga With Adriene YouTube channel for a while now on and off. Just going through it once again now makes me feel thankful for having these amazing folk like Adriene right at your fingertips.
These are longer classes for yoga’s sake and are filmed in nice calm locations.
Thanks to Stacey from Veggie Mama for pointing me in the direction of this channel many moons ago.
Now this guy is addictive! A friend of mine recommended him and once I saw the below clip I was all, “oh yeah, that guy!”
See! Well, he has over 80 of these routines on YouTube so it is easy to keep rolling and busting those moves. I do keep going back to this one though. My 4-year-old has had Me Too as an earworm for days due to my continued playing!
He has created playlists if you are not into clicking and choosing.
There is also The Fitness Marchall VLOG but don’t click because you will never workout and will procrastinate life. Seriously, there was 15 minutes between writing the above two sentences!
Do you have some old fitness DVDs hanging around the house?
