There is no mistaking, this little family loves to rock a superhero costume. A superhero persona can take over my three-year-old at any given time. The Hulk is blamed for many an angry outburst.
Superhero “stuff” is a dime a dozen for the boys but, as I found out last week when looking for a costume for my near 8-year-old stepdaughter, are hard to come by for the girls, especially tweens who were sick of wearing their little brother’s capes. She just wanted her own costume. We ended up adapting a very cool, sparkly BatGirl made for a 3-6-year-old. She was happy and rocked it with such seriousness her brother still talks about it!
Brought to you by DC Comics.
Girls love to kick butt too!
My love of BatGirl runs deep and I will own up to once having the legit goal of one day being BatGirl at MovieWorld on the Gold Coast after a week of work experience. I even did some research in if I would need to get my motorcycle licence. Alicia Silverstone in Batman & Robin anyone?
The team at DC Comics contacted me recently about their new series DC Super Hero Girls and I was very impressed. Here was a cartoon full of everyone’s favourite heroes (plus a few others) aimed at tween girls and passing the Bechdel Test.
Here is a little intro.
You can catch all of season one now on YouTube.
I have pointed Ari in that direction (100% beats egg surprise videos!) and subscribed to the channel. He loves it! Couldn’t care less about the high school setting or the mostly female cast.
These peeps are super!
He calls out each name as the characters come on or calls out mine to fill him in. I may or may not tell him the correct name… I really need to do more research on who’s who but he has caught me out a few times.
Speaking of who’s who, if you have the time check out some of the comments on the YouTube Channel. There are some hardcore fans out there!
It is nice to see that amongst the damsels out there is the strong, and confident yet relatable characters on the screen for our tweens.
Now DC Comics bring out the costumes!
Do you have an all-time favourite superhero? It can be Ryan Reynolds, we don’t judge here.
